Control and indicating devices
Thanks to a simple, logical design, our control and indicating devices can be operated safely and reliably. Our master controllers are modular, which allows individual operating, interlocking and switching elements to be flexibly configured. The rugged design ensures long equipment life and reduces service requirements. Overview of our control devices.
Components and devices for railway systems
We supply components for high-voltage switchgear, modular disconnecting and earthing devices and power electronics such as our flat battery power supply. Follow this link for an overview of our Transporation system equipment.
Modular disconnecting and earthing devices
Disconnecting and earthing devices isolate high-voltage systems from the supply bus and simultaneously ground them. This allows maintenance personnel to work safely.
Schaltbau's ZH1500 disconnecting and earthing device conforms to all applicable safety standards and is suitable for all UIC voltage levels. It is generally mounted behind a door and connected to it via a rod. Opening the door causes the rod to break the connection from the power supply to the train busbar and grounds the switchgear. Several padlocks can be used to lockout the device and prevent unintentional reconnection.

Detailed description and technical data
Flat battery power supply
The high-voltage supply in modern rail vehicles is fed from the locomotive to the individual passenger coaches via the train busbar. There, power is transformed to the required level by means of static inverters. The vehicle battery supplies the control voltage for these inverters. However, it must also supply many other loads, including for example, lighting. The vehicle battery therefore often becomes deeply discharged when the power supply is disconnected, and the static inverters are unable to operate when the power supply is re-energized.
Schaltbau's flat battery power supply is directly connected to the high-voltage supply and provides power to the supply system static inverters and the switch-on contactors for about three minutes. During this time, the power supply system is re-energized and the battery charger soon supplies enough power for the system to operate independently. The device is a static inverter with power factor control.
