Fork lifts: Savings through system integration

Combination switch units simplify interplay from plug to drive

Munich, 01.06.2007: In the area of industrial trucks, Schaltbau GmbH is deliberately following the cost-saving trend towards system integration. The latest example is the series of combination switch units that integrate all functions between plug and drive – thus making assembly simpler and cheaper.

Structurally and functionally, the Schaltbau combination contactors  combine, for instance, the Emergency-OFF switch with auxiliary contact, the main fuse switch and fuse, the monitoring fuse-box and fuses, the main contactor with auxiliary contacts, the holder for the horn, the connection plug and the entire wiring of all these components. That means that, in future, only one system-integrated assembly will have to be installed for all these different functions. The combined contactor has already been inspected inside and out, so the customer can dispense with the entire inspection effort when installing them, in addition to the wiring effort.

The present state of technology is that many different units and components are assembled, wired together, and tested both separately and for overall function. It’s easy to see why manufacturers of industrial trucks want cost-saving system integration: this process has been introduced with great success in other branches of vehicle construction. Schaltbau has understood this demand. In cooperation with a leading manufacturer in the sector, the first combination switch unit took shape within a year, with two additional versions close on its heels, and already in the design phase. More are in preparation. This multiplicity of versions is necessary because customers’ requirements and restraints vary widely. Whether with regard to the electrical data, the degree of integration or the physical shape – there is always a special variant to be designed. Even the appearance, right down to the operating knob, plays an important part, and depends on the vehicle manufacturer. The service that Schaltbau offers even provides end-to-end coverage of all logistical requirements, right down to packaging and labelling regulations.

The basis and the main prerequisite of the promising development of the combination contactor were the solid experience available at Schaltbau, and the close connections that the company has with key customers in the area of the industrial-truck market. With the implementation of practicable, highly functional solutions, the response of the Munich specialists to the wishes of their customers is quick, reliable and commercially competitive. According to the market, the combined contactors reflect “the spirit of the age”.
