New NO power contactors for AC and DC applications
Schaltbau has launched a new series of contactors for railway traction applications. These single and double pole NO contactors are especially designed for high power AC and DC applications as they are typical of diesel and electric locomotives and multiple units. The specifications of the contactor series are in accordance with railway standard IEC 60077.
The CX1000 Series includes five types and four package sizes of contactors differing in the number of contacts (single or double pole) and nominal voltage. That is to say, with conventional thermal current (Ith) at 800 A, the nominal voltage of a contactor of that series ranges from 1,000 V up to 3,000 V max., depending on the type and package size of the contactor.
The new contactors are characterised by a high making and breaking capacity. With a making capacity of 4,000 A, the breaking capacity ranges from 1,300 A max. in AC applications and up to 3,600 A in DC applications. The contactors come with coil voltages between 24 V and 110 V DC. They are equipped by default with four auxiliary switching elements of the S826 series. The S826 is a SPDT-DB (form Z circuitry) snap-action switch with roller lever, mounting brackets and magnetic blowout.
The arc chambers can be removed and allow for easy inspection and maintenance of the contactor’s main contacts. They are connected to the contactor by means of a current bar (hole diameter 0.43307 in), whereas there are screw-type terminals for the auxiliary contacts (M3) and the coil (M4).
With pollution degree PD3 and overvoltage category OV III, the contactors are designed for temperatures ranging from -22°F to +158°F (-30°C to +70°C). And with a mechanical endurance of over 5 million operating cycles and an electrical endurance of more than 100,000 cycles, the CX1000 Series contactors guarantee a long service life.
For decades Schaltbau has demonstrated the quality of its switchgear in railway engineering and materials handling vehicles. It is from this wealth of experience and expertise in handling high voltage and amperage that Schaltbau’s distributors and sales partners benefit world wide. And it is also the best foundation for design and manufacture of special switchgear to customer specifications.
