Schaltbau contactors and their applications

The switching of high voltages and currents is part of the evolutionary history of Schaltbau GmbH. Ever since the early years, the experts at Schaltbau have constantly worked on developing new solutions for controlling heavy electrical loads in a safe and reliable way. Extinguishing electric arcs in power contactors is one of the core competencies of the company.

The traditional field of application for Schaltbau contactors is railway technology with its special requirements, for example due to the varying supply voltages used throughout the world. Schaltbau’s patented CT concept offers a revolutionary solution for switching both unidirectional and bidirectional direct current as well as alternating current with one and the same contactor: in the CT1000 the efficiency of permanent-magnetic and electromagnetic blowout fields has been combined to extinguish the electric arc under all load conditions in an extremely short time.

Applications for Schaltbau contactors

Specialised solutions are being developed for other fields of application too: our new C130-250 series combination contactors are compatible with the modular concept of state-of-the-art industrial trucks and combine a wide variety of electrical and mechanical functions in one single assembly.

In case of power cuts in computer centres and telecommunications systems the compact contactors from Schaltbau make sure the appliances are reliably supplied by a battery or fuel cell back-up system without interruption. Manufacturers of wind and solar power plants use Schaltbau devices as main contactors.
